When you are a new mother, making “mama friends” can be difficult. Approaching other mothers can be as awkward as a first date! But once you get the hang of it, it does become easier. You just need a good opening and one thing in common to get the conversation started. Just think of them as “playground pick-up lines!”
You may be wondering, “Where do I to meet these mothers?” Playgrounds, mommy and me classes (such as Little Gym, baby yoga and toddler swim classes), neighborhood playgroups and even waiting at the pediatrician’s office are great places to find potential mommy friends.
Next time you run across a mom with kids about the age of your kids, you could always use the following conversation starters:
- How old is your son/daughter?
- I love your stroller. Where did you get it?
- How close in age are your two kids?
- Nice diaper bag…does it have a lot of room?
Soon you’ll be hosting your own playgroups and phoning up your new friends to meet at the local park.
