Baby Names!

Choosing a name for your baby can be hard! The range of names to choose from is mind-boggling. Do you go traditional or unusual? Do you like unisex names or family names? The possibilities are endless, so when it is time to choose a name for your little one, here are some tips to help you!

--- Decide your style of names. Do you like traditional names? Or do you want something less common? Do you want your child’s name to have special meaning, such as a Biblical name, a family name, or for the name itself to mean something special? Or do you just want it to sound good with your last name? Decide what is important to you when you begin the process of choosing a name for your baby.
--- Choose a name you would want to have yourself. Think about 20 years down the road, would your child want to be called the name you are considering? Is there a possibility of unkind nicknames that come along with your name choice? How does the name sound with last name? These are all things to consider when selecting the perfect name.

--- Decide if you want your child to have a nickname or not. Some names lend itself to inevitable nicknames (such as Elizabeth can be Liz or Beth and Robert can be Bob or Robbie.) If you absolutely hate a potential nickname that comes along with a formal name you have selected, then you may want to consider selecting another name.

---Remember, the baby you are naming is your baby, so it really comes down to your opinion. If you seek too many people’s thoughts on names, it will confuse you and make you second guess your choices. If you don’t want the peanut gallery weighing in on the name of your child, then keep it to yourself until the baby is born. Friends and relatives are less likely to weigh in on the name you have selected once the naming has become official.

Whether you choose a traditional name or an uncommon name, as long as you like it, then that is all that matters!

You can always check out names of celebrity babies for inspiration, too (or for ideas of what NOT to name your child!) Here are some of the more unusual baby names we found below!
